The Yamaha CS1x – The Synthesizer I'll Always Love!

Filed Under (Digital Synthesizers, Vintage Synthesizers) by Duke Simpson on 12-08-2009

Yamaha CS1x SynthesizerIt was in the middle of the eighties. I was a child and got my very first own radio. Soon I realised that I liked a special kind of music. It was this new age and synthesizer stuff which fascinated me the most. The sound of Depeche Mode, Bronski Beat and Jean-Michel Jarre was like magic in my ears. This kind of music was like “music from the future” for me, simply music for your mind!

My musical journey continued on my first home computer, the Commodore 64 – a real wonder machine those days. Many games would have been worthless without the great music. To make a long story short: I started making music with the Commodore Amiga and a simple keyboard. And then later in the nineties I put all my money together and bought my first synthesizer – the Yamaha CS1x! What a great instrument – and believe me or not: I still own that one and use it as my primary Master Keyboard. So flexibel and powerful and a great piece for beginners!

The CS1x is Yamaha’s first Analog Emulation Keyboard Synthesizer for electronic, Dance and Trance artists eventhough it is actually a Digital Synthesizer. The controls are real-time controllable via MIDI.

There are six knobs for envelope attack, release, filter cutoff, resonance and two of them are assignable. Two scene memories will remember the current state of the envelope and filters as set by the control knobs so they can instantly be recalled and you can then use the Modulation-wheel to morph between the scenes. And did I mention the Arpeggiator?

If you can find a used CS1x synthesizer on eBay – don’t hesitate. This digital synthesizer is definitely underpriced and worth every penny.
